Winter Beauty

Here at our untidy life, we are making the most of our cold snowy Sunday. I spent part of my day pouring over my Johnny’s Selected Seeds catalog dreaming about my garden and part of my day shoveling. Thank goodness for hot cocoa and warm blankets! I did manage to leave my warm cozy house to snap a few winter pictures to share. I can’t help but appreciate the winter beauty all around me.

Winter plants for food

I left some flowers that went to seed last fall uncut so the winter birds would have some food. It is amazing to think that just a few short months ago these flowers provided food and shelter to butterflies and honey bees. Now at the end of their life cycle, they are providing food again.

Of course I couldn’t write about winter beauty without adding a picture or two of the chickens. Unfortunately, they were a bit put off by the snow. I could only get shots of them peeking out of the coop. I can say that I don’t blame the girls for wanting to stay warm and cozy in the coop today.

Lastly, I wanted to capture the kitchen garden. From this picture you can get a sense of just how small our yard is and how close we are to our neighbors. (Would you believe we only have a quarter of an acre lot?) Even so, we plan on having a full and productive garden in the warmer months. Luckily, I still have time to dream and plan. Stay warm and cozy my friends!
